James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
As a kid, I remember the “Old Timers” saying, “There’s only two things certain in life, death and taxes!” But there is something else that is certain: trials. Without a doubt, we are reminded in scripture that there will be trials of our faith so that we might be able to walk closer with God.
Andrew Murray stated in his book, Humlity: the Beauty of Holiness, “In trial and weakness and trouble, He seeks to bring us low, until we learn that His grace is all, and to take pleasure in the very thing that brings us and keeps us low. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. His presence filling and satisfying our emptiness, becomes the secret of humility that need never fail.”
James reminds us that in the midst of the trial, we do not have to rely on our own ability, or wisdom. What an incredible promise from God that we are not left alone. Are you facing trials, temptations, or a need for wisdom? God invites us to come into His presence to seek His wonderful help (Hebrews 4:16). The wisdom of God is available to anyone who asks. I have personally found that God is faithful to help and to deliver. Never once has He forsaken this great promise!
