James 1:15, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
Over the last year, there have been over 500,000 reported deaths from the CoVid-19 virus. It is hard to consider that in the garden of Eden death was an enigma. Following creation the earth was filled with life, not death. Lions and lambs lived together without any violence. Tragically, this all changed when Adam and Eve rebelled against God. Their sin brought about the first death, the death of a lamb. It also brought about the death of their innocence and condemned all of mankind as sinners (1 Corinthians 15:32).
As James wrote this warning, he was reminding us that the end result of sin is always death. Today, we have more options available to us to sin than ever before. Yet, in our arrogance we believe we can short circuit this law of God, namely that sin brings death. We believe we can hide our sin, or that it won’t hurt anyone. While the end result of sin is not always easily apparent, in the end it will destroy our relationship with God. It has the potential to destroy our relationship with our family or friends.
God offers forgiveness, and freedom from the snares of sin. When Christ rose from the grave, He proved He has the power to overcome sin and the grave. Then we are reminded that we can have victory through His name!
1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
