Trust Only God

By Pastor John Bingham

James 1:6-8, “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

The prophet Hosea teaches about the fickleness and faithlessness of the nation of Israel. First she went to Egypt seeking help, and then she went to Assyria. She turned to one then the other, but she did not turn to God. We often look at this pattern in Israel’s history and wonder why didn’t they just trust God?

Yet, we have a tendency to be just like this. Christians trust God for salvation, but when the rubber meets the road on the things of life, we look for answers and solutions in everything other than God.

As James encouraged this church that was going through temptations and trials, he called them to have faith in God alone. Not to be flighty in their faith, but to know that God is the One that can deliver them from the trials that they face.

This valuable lesson is vital for us today as well. Trust God alone. When our trust is in the Lord, then there is stability because the object of our faith is consistent. God is always the same.
