James 2:1, “My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.”
Throughout my ministry, I have noticed that it is easy to develop cliques with people that share our common interests and passions. To compound the problem, we often see that people will exclude others into their circle, and it creates a needless hurt.
God knows the danger of such attitudes, and has demonstrated that He is “no respecter of persons.” This was demonstrated when he saved the thief on the cross, and the moral man, Nicodemus. There was no special treatment, both were in need of salvation and Christ provided it for them.
When our love for Christ is pure, then we don’t see skin color, family background or financial status. We see each man in equal need of a Saviour.
General Robert E. Lee was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. It is said that soon after the end of the American Civil War, he visited a church in Washington, D.C. During the communion service he knelt beside a black man. An onlooker said to him later, "How could you do that?" Lee replied, "My friend, all ground is level beneath the cross."
