James 2:5-7, “Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?”
While we often look down on those in society that are less fortunate, God makes the case that the poorest in the church may be the richest man spiritually in that church. J. Vernon McGee states, “The Word of God says a great deal about the poor. God has made it very clear from Genesis to Revelation that He has a concern and consideration for the poor...Their only hope is in Jesus Christ.”
Job 5:15, “But he saveth the poor from the sword, From their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.”
Psalm 9:18, “For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: The expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.”
Psalm 102:17, “He will regard the prayer of the destitute, And not despise their prayer.”
God has a lot more to say about the poor in the earth. In truth, without Christ we are all poor and destitute in our spirit. But thanks to the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we can know the riches of God.
2 Corinthians 8:9, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.”
Put your faith in the Lord and know that the riches of His great grace await all those that trust in Him.
